So, it’s safe to say that I’m expecting A LOT from Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions.ĭimensions stays close to the formula. It remains one of the best arcade experiences of all time and is certainly the best game in the genre. The sequel, Geometry Wars 2, however improved on it massively with a host of extra modes that made it a true ten out of ten masterpiece. It was a decent enough game but quite repetitive, a little too difficult for many and it had one of the most irritating soundtracks ever. The series started as a mini-game in the Project Gotham Racing 2 but hit mainstream popularity with Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved on Xbox Live Arcade. While the twin-stick shooter genre obviously owes a massive debt to the ’80s classics Robotron and Smash TV, the genre’s massive resurgence in the last decade or so is thanks to the Geometry Wars titles. It doesn’t have a lot of depth, and most of the replayability comes in the fact you need to replay Adventure levels a lot of times to earn enough points to upgrade your modules. It’s a nice update to a series that last had a new title six years ago, though that’s all it feels like. In fact, all twelve tracks have been released on Soundcloud for free. The audio is very up-tempo and electronic, and quite catchy. They’re very simple shapes, which helps in identifying each one before it can try to kill you. It looks as colourful and vibrant as ever, with each enemy type being a different neon shade as well as quite distinct looks.
